About Dr Emma Scriven
Emma has a Bachelor of Health Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine (SSNT), a Diplomatic Diploma of Canonical Chinese Medicine (ICEAM), and is trained in massage, cupping therapy and Auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture).
Emma's special interests lie within the links between our mental and physical health.
Emma had a difficult upbringing, riddled with anxiety and health issues, and as a young adult she started to understand the impact that years of stress had taken on her body, eventually diagnosed with several chronic pain and autoimmune conditions.
Searching for answers and while working as a massage therapist, Emma discovered Chinese herbal medicine, Acupuncture and nutritional values, which lead to a five year love affair of studying in Melbourne, at The Southern School of Natural Therapies.
During her last years of study, Emma also became one of under 100 practitioners in Australia to complete a Post-Graduate Diplomacy with Dr Arnaud Versluys, a world renowned Classical Chinese Medicine teacher and director of the ICEAM. From here, Emma has dedicated and directed her practice to honouring past healers and acknowledges her learning is through many family traditions that are not her own. She carries this with great care and respect.
As her passion expanded, Emma finally opened her own clinic, Healesville Chinese Medicine, in April 2014.
With her background and love of helping others as her motivation, Emma knows how hard the process can be to pull yourself back from chronic physical, and emotional pain. She also knows that it can be done to positive effect, and as you will see after your first appointment, Emma is very passionate about offering to others what she herself had to search for:
a doctor that will do as much as possible to give you the information and guidance needed for consistent good health.
Drawing from her training in Classical and Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as her many years of working alongside other practitioners such as chiropractors, osteopaths, counselors and psychologists, Emma has a special interest in mental health and wellness. With conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), and chronic stress becoming as common as 8 out of 10 cases, Emma pays close attention to this in each patient. With extra training in Auriculotherapy Acupuncture for psycho-somatic conditions, Emma can apply several well-known systems of Acupuncture within the same treatment, to address stress, mental well-being and physical pain in the one appointment.
Other area's of her interests are general family and community health, chronic pain conditions, injury and scarring.
Emma endeavors to assist any patient who comes through the door.
